Not?many people are aware that Newark, New Jersey was a major hub for the manufacture of jewelry from the late 1800's until the 1950's. One of the leading companies, the?Riker Brothers, has an early history that dates back to 1846. Their pieces are quite sought after and still remain highly collectible today. ??
This gorgeous hinged bangle bracelet from the Art Nouveau?(ca1900) era is a fantastic example of the?Riker Brothers'?talent. Known for their attention to detail, this 14k yellow gold piece is decorated in a lovely floral and scrolling carved relief?design covering the entire outer surface. Within the scrolling foliate pattern, you'll find an assortment of? two rubies, two sapphires, and one diamond, all round and faceted. The old mine cut diamond weighs an estimated 0.65ctw, I color, SI1 clarity. The rubies weigh a combined weight of 0.50ctw, and the sapphires have a combined weight of approximately 0.50ctw. The rubies display a luscious deep red hue, and the sapphires share a rich velvet blue tone. The bracelet is hinged on the side, allowing you to easily place it on your wrist. The inside of the bangle is marked "14K" and bears?the Riker Brothers hallmark, the signature?"R" with a sword through it. The tongue of the clasp is also marked with two 14k purity marks. A?spectacular piece, it would look?stunning worn by itself or with other similar bracelets. It would make a fabulous addition to any Riker Brothers' collection!
Measurements:?The interior circumference of the bracelet measures 7 1/2" round, and the bracelet is 1/2" at widest and would best fit a slightly larger sized wrist.? ?
Condition:?The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no damage to the bracelet and the hinge and clasp are secure and in good working condition. All of the stones are secure in their settings. On the interior of the bangle, you'll notice evidence of a past repair, but this is not visible when worn.
